Lies We Are Told In Network Marketing.
First, you may have
heard that you can start your own business for as little as $125!
Technically this is true. But truly, do you believe that you can start
a successful business with just $125 and smile on your face? It takes
money to run a business and don't let anybody tell you differently.
Too
many people come into the home party plan business beause it was inexpensive to start and really thought all they needed was their starter
kit and the money would start rolling in. It doesn't happen that way!
You know the old saying, "It takes money to make money," Well it is
true.
Second, and I know you have heard this one "The product will sell itself!"
Come
on, think about this and I know you will agree with me. If it was that
easy, we would all be rich, including me! While both Mary Kay and
Arbonne do have great product lines, and Avon now has a massive line of
products, it all still requires a salesperson to do the selling, and
that is your job.
There are easier ways to work you direct sales
business though, then pounding the streets 16 hrs a day and bugging
everybody you meet at the grocery store and waiting in line at the
movie theatre. I will try to teach you some of those methods through this website. You can learn other great ways to make your direct selling business a huge success by reading Ann Sieg's great book "The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing." It is a free book that you can get by clicking on the above link. It has proven invaluable in helping me to build my Pinkrenegade business.
Third, you were told to simply share the
opportunity with everyone you meet and they will want it!
Have you ever
asked yourself WHY? Why, in heavens name would everybody want this
opportunity? Some people are perfectly happy with their jobs. Some people have absolutely no desire to own their own home party plan business.
Besides,
you don't want to share this opportunity with EVERYONE. Can you see an
employer offering eveyone they see a chance to be on their team? How
well would that work out for that employer? It takes someone who cares
about others, will take the time to truly be of service to their
clients, someone who will study and know the product they are selling.
Someone who will treat others as they would want other's to treat them, someone who will be a team player and be supportive to other independent beauty consultants in the same line of work as them.
In
this line of business, independent beauty consultants do not compete
against each other, they support each other. These are the type of
people you want on your team. We will look later at how you have these
people look for you, and ask you if they can join your team. You do not
have to convince them they want to be on your team, they have to
convince you, that you want them on your team! Nice position to be in,
wouldn't you agree?
Fourth, your upline is bound to tell you,
"Do things the way I did it and you can't lose!"
While I have great
respect for women in this business, some have lost touch with the
times. When Mary Kay founded this business in the early 1960's, she did
not have the tools at her disposal that we have today. When her
business was founded, the Beatles were singing "I Want To Hold Your
Hand." There was no such thing as Ebay, My Space, YouTube, email, and
almost no one had a home computer.
Most women today, have
purchased at least one thing online in the last 30 days. Internet
shopping has grown into a multi Billion dollar industry. Think maybe you
could use a slice of that billion dollar industry? We will investigate how you can do that later on.
Fifth, and my
favorite, "This is not selling, it is sharing the product."
If your
upline is telling you this, excuse them, for they don't know what they
are saying! When you have anything that someone else can purchase, it
is selling-PERIOD, end of subject.
Sixth, Share the product with everyone within three feet of you.
Bug that woman at the grocery store - She will thank you! Hmmmm,
can we go back to the golden rule of treating others as you want others
to treat you. Do you really want to be asked if you want a facial when
you have your hand rummaging through the meat counter and your gut's in knot's because of the price of groceries? I think not!
Times have changed. You don't need to run around bothering everyone in
a 20 foot radius. You want prospects to come to you. People who are
searching for answers for their specific problems. They are your
customers.
Seventh, Your company personal website will help your sales immensely!
Actually,
you will not get any business from your Mary Kay or Arbonne company
website unless you already have a huge client base or you immediately
go out on a super selling spree. The reason for this is simple. The
high earners are rewarded first for their success. What that means to
you, unless you become a Star Consultant (which in Mary Kay means you sell $1800 retail in a quarter) you will be over looked in the consultant search.
Now,
if you live in nowhereville and there are no consultants within 100
miles of where you live, you will get hits on the consultant search. I
am thinking most of you are not in that situation. Do not count on your
personal website to draw in customers for you. I talk about this under "build your own website", you absolutely need a website of your own if you want to
compete in the 21st century.
